Outrageous Pumpkin Carving Ideas (And Some Classics)

By Victoria M. Johnson

It's pumpkin carving season!  That means it's time to get out your serrated knife, scoop out mounds of seeds, and get busy designing and carving faces on your pumpkins.  Do you prefer whacked out faces or the classic jack-o-lantern face?  Either way, here are some ideas to get your creative pumpkin juices flowing.

But I NEVER Carved a Pumpkin Before!
Not to worry, you can find step-by-step instructions to carve your pumpkin on almost any food website.  Here is a sampling: BBC Good Food, Good Housekeeping, and Martha Stewart.

  1. These are great! Having no artistic ability, I usually download and print out a scary or funny face to use as a stencil for carving my pumpkin.

    1. Hi Karen--
Stencils are perfectly acceptable! Some people don't carve at all, they draw a face on the pumpkin. And I think that is just fine, too. Thank you for stopping by.

  2. Your photos are inspiring but I still leave pumpkin carving to my husband who takes great pleasure in not only carving it and setting it out on our front porch but also growing the pumpkin itself. I wouldn't want to mess with his fun.

    1. Hi Deborah--
Wow! Your husband sounds like he really enjoys the season. Does he cook with it, too?
